Investment Executive Alex Shingler ’93 Shares Career Insights with Students

April 22, 2025 – The Marianopolis alumni network continues to offer our students unique learning opportunities.

Last week, Class of 1993 graduate Alex Shingler returned to campus to participate in a special seminar and meet with students involved in the Marianopolis Investment Management Program, piloted by Professor Norma Vite-Leon.

A Managing Director at BlackRock, Mr. Shingler answered student questions about his academic and professional path and offered advice on navigating the early stages of a career in finance.

He encouraged students to think beyond traditional finance skills and to develop capabilities that can set them apart, particularly those rooted in their own interests.

As a student in Pure & Applied Science at Marianopolis, Mr. Shingler discovered an unexpected interest in philosophy after taking a Philosophy of Science course, which eventually led him to major in the subject at Princeton. Many of the skills associated with the study of philosophy provided him with a distinct perspective and skill set as he entered the world of finance.

The College would like to thank Alex Shingler for generously offering his time to students and for encouraging them to embrace the future with curiosity and openness. Special thanks to Professor Jacqueline De Stefano and to Commerce student William Carvalho Guertin for leading the discussion and Q&A.
