Marianopolis Students Win Prizes at Provincial Science Fair Final

April 15, 2025 – Marianopolis students earned recognition for their research projects at the Super Expo-Science Hydro-Quebec provincial final at Cégep du Vieux Montréal last weekend.

Health Science student Cassidy Engo and Pure & Applied Science student Lauren Engo won the Prix Fasken in Humanitarian Sciences and the Prix Irma-LeVasseur for Women in Science, awarded by the Secrétariat à la Condition féminine, for their project “Beyond Words: Understanding the Role of Language in Healthcare Disparities.”

Pure and Applied Science students Mingruifu Lin and Daniel Wei, meanwhile, were awarded a bursary from l’Université de Sherbrooke for their study “Patient-Specific Artificial Intestines: Biomechanics of Auxetic Structures,” a project that combines computational modeling with 3D printing to develop artificial intestines that replicate organic movement and addresses limitations in current colorectal cancer treatments.

Students were also invited to present their projects to the Ministre de l’Enseignement supérieur, Pascale Dery, and leading scientific figures in Quebec.

The Marianopolis community is incredibly proud of their accomplishments and hopes the experience allows them to continue to grow as researchers and science communicators!
