Marianopolis Students Take Part in Parliamentary Simulation

January 30, 2025 – Marianopolis students got a behind-the-scenes look at Quebec politics earlier this month.

Social Science student Zixuan Fang and Honours Health Science students Aly Shalaby and Youssef Shalaby participated in the 2025 edition of Forum Étudiants, an annual parliamentary simulation held at the Assemblée nationale du Québec.

From January 6-10, students took on the roles of MNAs, debating and voting on laws in the Salon rouge and participating in committee hearings on a range of topics. The event provided hands-on experience in the democratic and legislative process and allowed students to connect with peers from around the province.

The College’s participation was initiated by students in the Marianopolis Politics Club, with support from faculty in the Social Science program. Professor and program coordinator Jean-Michel Cohalan ‘98 accompanied the student delegation to Quebec City.

This experience was an excellent opportunity for students to take their first steps in Quebec politics. Thank you to Forum Étudiants for organizing a fantastic event, and congratulations to Zixuan, Aly, and Youssef!
