Marianopolis students now have another space to access information resources, get assistance from a librarian, and study.
The College’s newly renovated Library Ground Floor was officially inaugurated earlier this month. The redesigned space provides students with multiple seating areas and work surfaces and equips the Library with more shelving to display its extensive collection of books. The new design also accentuates natural light throughout the space.
The renovation project was overseen by a dedicated College task force led by Senior Director of Finance and Administration Joanne Gagné, Library Coordinator Amy MacLean, Administration Officer Lina Rubertucci, Administrative Technician Claudia Grande and Information Services Librarian Matthew Flanagan. The design plan was developed by architects Colin J. Hanley, a Marianopolis graduate from the class of 2001 and Maricarmen Coello, both from DMA architectes.
Many of the design choices were based on student feedback collected in a special survey.
“It was important to ensure a stylistic link to the Library’s Main Floor and to consult with students,” says Library Coordinator Amy MacLean. “And our students told us that sharing communal working spaces with their peers was motivating, and that being surrounded by books and plants creates a studious ambiance that they appreciate.”
