CONTACT

Who can I talk to if I have more questions or if my supervisor and I have trouble accessing the ROSI database?

Am I eligible to participate?

You are eligible if you meet these criteria:

  • You are a full-time student. You can confirm your status with the Registrar’s Office or with an Academic Advisor.
  • You are in good academic standing. Students who are not considered in good academic standing receive official notification from the Associate Academic Dean.
  • You will complete at least 30 hours of involvement in a given field during the time allotted.
  • You are not receiving financial remuneration or course credit for your activity. Honours and certificate points do count, as long as you are not also receiving course credit for them.

Is my activity eligible for ROSI?

Your activity must fall into one of these fields to be eligible:

  • Social and Community
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Cultural and Artistic
  • Scholastic
  • Athletic
  • Political
  • Scientific
  • Environmental

You cannot receive remuneration or course credit for your activity. Your participation must be on a volunteer basis in order to be eligible. You are allowed to claim up to 20 hours of independent involvement per field. If you’re not sure whether your activity qualifies, be sure to talk to ROSI Project Coordinator Adam Reider. And if you don’t complete the minimum hours, don’t worry, you can try again.

Is my activity eligible if it’s not affiliated with Marianopolis?

Yes, as long as it meets the criteria set out above.

My activity is producing a profit but I am donating the money to a cause. Am I still eligible?

Fund-raising activities qualify. However, you cannot personally receive any financial compensation for your involvement in order to be eligible.

I am receiving sponsorship or donations in order to fund my activity. Is it still eligible?

Yes, as long as you are not personally benefiting from the funds that are being given to the activity.

I won a monetary prize for my activity. Am I still eligible?

Yes, as long as there is no expected, probable or guaranteed remuneration for your activity.

How many hours do I have to complete to be eligible and by when?

You must complete at least 30 hours of involvement per semester in your chosen field, for a minimum of 10 hours per activity. You must complete a minimum of 30 hours over a period of time not exceeding four months during the academic year, starting from the first day of classes of the fall semester and ending by the last day of classes of the winter semester. If your activity extends beyond more than one semester, you will receive recognition on your transcript for the semester in which you finish your hours.

I completed 20 hours of involvement last semester. If I complete another 10 this semester, am I eligible?

As long as the 30 hours are completed within a four-month period, your activity may extend over two semesters.

I completed 30 hours of involvement before ROSI existed. Am I still eligible?

Unfortunately, no. You must register before your start your activity.

I was involved in my activity in July. Do those hours count?

No. For the purposes of ROSI, the academic year runs from the first day of classes of the fall semester and ends by the last day of classes of the winter semester.

I am applying to university. How can I make sure ROSI appears on my transcript in time?

Complete your Self-Evaluation Form and have your supervisor complete the Supervisor Tracking Form through your respective ROSI accounts by no later than the last day of class in December; for your winter transcript, no later than the last day of class in May. If either form is submitted after those dates, the mention will appear on the next printing of the transcript. Universities don’t always look for this recognition on your transcript but ROSI is helpful because the College can verify your involvement should a university inquire. This is another reason why you should report all your hours, not just the minimum.

I want to make sure ROSI will be on my fall transcript but I won’t be finished my 30 hours by then. Can I still apply if I know I will finish them by the end of the semester?

No. All your hours must be completed at the time that you submit your documentation.

I completed my hours in the fall semester but I only submitted them during the winter semester. In which semester will ROSI appear on my transcript?

The ROSI designation will appear on your transcript based on the semester in which you completed the activity, even if you submit your documentation the following semester.

What is the deadline for applying?

There are several deadlines to keep in mind:

  • You must register for ROSI before you begin your activity. You may do so at any time during the academic year, as long as you do so before you start.
  • You must complete your 30 hours within four months of starting your activity.
  • Both the self- and supervisor evaluation forms must be submitted within three months of finishing.
  • Mention will appear on your transcript for the term in which you finish your hours. For the mention to appear on the first printing of your transcript, you must submit all documentation by the last day of class of the relevant term. If you submit it later, the mention will appear the next time your transcript is produced.

Can I divide my hours between more than one field of involvement?

No. You must complete at least 30 hours of involvement in an individual field to be eligible. You can, however, be eligible for recognition in more than one field if you complete at least 30 hours of involvement for each field.

What if my activity falls into more than one category?

That’s fine. However, it will only count in one field.

Can I divide my hours between several activities?

Yes, as long as the activities fall under the same field of involvement. For instance, writing for the College newspaper, taking part in a theatrical production and organizing an art exhibit all fall under the Cultural & Artistic field of involvement. You must complete a minimum of 10 hours per activity.

Can I receive recognition in the same field more than once?

Yes. A field may be recognized as many times as you wish during the duration of your studies at Marianopolis.

Can I receive recognition in more than one field?

Yes. You can receive recognition for as many fields as you like provided you complete the requirements for each.

My activity finished but I was only able to complete 40 hours. Can I get partial credit for my involvement?

No. You must complete 30 hours of involvement in order to be eligible.

Who can act as a supervisor?

Your supervisor should be someone who is in a position of authority within your activity and who can attest to your participation. You should have regular contact with them and they should be able to give an accurate description of your involvement. Marianopolis students may not act as supervisors.

Your supervisor must complete the Supervisor Tracking Form, so be sure to choose someone who is familiar enough with you and your involvement to be able to fill it out properly. If you are unsure about who to choose as a supervisor, discuss your options with ROSI Project Coordinator Adam Reider.

I can’t find a supervisor. Am I still eligible?

You must have a supervisor in order to be eligible. If you are unable to find one, contact ROSI Project Coordinator Adam Reider.

I work on activities at home alone, does that still count?

You are allowed to claim up to 20 hours of independent involvement per field.

I’m in a certificate program/honors program. Does this count?

Yes, provided that this work does not also get you course credit.

What happens if I don’t complete the minimum ROSI hours like I thought I would?

Don’t worry. Nothing will happen. You can try again.

Do you universities see this recognition? Will this help me get into university?

Universities don’t always look for this recognition but ROSI is helpful because the College can verify your involvement should a university inquire about it.

Should I include all the hours I’ve completed or just the bare minimum?

Because the College can potentially report your participation to universities, you should include all your hours.

I am participating in several different activities. Do I need a supervisor for each one?

Yes. For each activity you participate in, must have your supervisor fill out the Supervisor Tracking Form or else you will not receive recognition for your involvement. It can be the same supervisor for multiple activities.

I completed 60 hours of involvement last semester. Can I apply now?

Please see ROSI Project Coordinator Adam Reider.
