Marianopolis College's Robotics team scored big in the 2010 Canadian Robotics Competition on Feb. 18-20, placing first in the competition's website component and second in the journal section.

Have you been accepted at Marianopolis for Fall 2010? Congratulations! Your acceptance letter included a confirmation deadline. Please fill out your confirmation form on time, so you don’t risk having your spot given to someone else if we don’t hear from you by your confirmation deadline. You can mail your $200 confirmation fee or drop it off in person at the College.

Marianopolis offers 10 new merit-based full scholarships

Marianopolis is pleased to announce the creation of 10 new merit-based academic scholarships that will cover 100 percent of the tuition for students studying at the College next year. If the students maintain their grades, the awards, called the Director General’s Merit Scholarships, will be renewed in the second year, and an additional 10 awards will be given for incoming students. “A year from now we will be offering 20 scholarships in all, a free college education at Marianopolis for excellent students,” said Director General Len Even. 

Former Cuban revolutionary to speak on campus

The public is invited to a talk by Armando Choy, a former general in Cuba’s Revolutionary Armed Forces and a co-author of Our History Is Still Being Written: The Story of Three Chinese-Cuban Generals in the Cuban Revolution, 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Amphitheatre. A founder of the Communist Party of Cuba, today he is the director of the Port of Havana and oversees the clean-up of Havana Bay. His Marianopolis talk marks his only local visit besides to a University of Montreal political science class. It is among many events associated with the College’s Third World Studies Certificate, which is open to Marianopolis students in all areas of study. 

All invited to Prix d’expression musicale competition

The public is invited to join the Marianopolis community for an evening of music Monday, as students compete in the Prix d'expression musicale. First held in 1980, the Prix d’expression musicale is an annual opportunity for students in the Marianopolis Music and Double DEC programs to perform in a judged recital. It is also a chance to enjoy an evening of music. This year it takes place in the Auditorium starting at 7:30 p.m.

Marianopolis the only Canadian college at Harvard Model UN in Taipei

A dozen Marianopolis students are participating in the Harvard World Model United Nations 2010 in Taipei this week. The other Canadian students at the so-called Olympics of the Model UN are from Brock, Dalhousie and York universities and the University of British Columbia. “Attending is a great achievement for the entire Marianopolis Model UN Club,” said club member Abdaal Mazhar, a Health Science student. “It is a great honour and privilege to be representing Marianopolis at any conference, and doing so in Taipei will be all the more special as it is the culmination of our fundraising efforts that began last summer." The club is one of more than 80 at Marianopolis.
