January: Life After Mari: Creative Writing Workshop

When we were kids, many of us wrote for the fun of it. But as we grew up, writing turned into something stressful – perhaps because of the pressures associated with doing well at school, and later, getting published. Workshop leader Monique Polak ’79 has developed tricks to help bring the fun back into writing. These helpful techniques range from using words to make drawings and writing with the non-dominant hand, to making lists and finding inspiration in dreams. Monique will also demonstrate how to use these tools to take on more conventional writing projects. The workshop’s goal is to help participants find the story they most need to tell. Participants should bring lots of paper – and prepare to be creative!

Admission: Free of charge – however, donations are welcome
Place: TBA
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

January: Mental Health & Wellness Panel

To mark Mental Health Awareness month, we offer parents a panel comprised of experts in the industry who will provide a greater understanding of factors that could impact a student’s mental wellness. Participants will leave with tools to help them recognize the warning signs of common mental health issues (such as depression and anxiety) together with tips on how to help their child cope and get the necessary support.

Admission: Free of charge
Place: TBA
Time: TBA

April: MYLO Leadership Development Evening

The Marianopolis Young Leaders Organization (MYLO), together with the Development and Alumni Affairs Office, welcome incoming students to an evening of life lessons, advice and anecdotes from those who were once in their shoes – Marianopolis alumni! If you feel like you have wisdom to impart to a younger generation, and if you are interested in being one of our career panelists, please contact the Executive Director of the Development and Alumni Affairs Office, Dino Mazzone ’87, at 514-931-8792 ext.205 for more details.

April: Ice Cream Day

Anyone remember Eddie Murphy’s iconic bit about ice cream in the 1983 stand-up comedy television special Delirious? If you don’t, you’re either too young or we’re getting too old. Either way, the Development and Alumni Affairs Office is crazy about delicious Italian gelato and, on what we hope will be a sunny April day on the College’s front lawn, we will make it available to students, faculty, staff and friends. This is your chance to enjoy amazing ice cream and granita – all at $1 per scoop. Funds raised will be donated to The Marianopolis Millennium Foundation.

April: Grad Fair

Current students are invited to check out our grad gear during Activity Period at the alcove in front of Wayne’s World. Available items include grad rings, diploma frames, portrait frames and signature folios. Items can be purchased online at marianopolis.edu/gradshop anytime prior to graduation.

April: ITS Spaghetti Lunch

The Marianopolis Information Technology Department invites faculty and staff for a delicious spaghetti meal made with meat or vegetarian sauce, and served up with garlic bread and Italian sausage. Those who attend are sure to leave with a full stomach! All proceeds from this event will be donated to The Marianopolis Millennium Foundation.

May: 4th Annual Donor Appreciation Cocktail

Donors are the lifeblood of The Marianopolis Millennium Foundation. To honour their generosity and to thank them in person, we invite benefactors of the Foundation to attend a cocktail evening and presentation by a captivating guest speaker. Previous speakers have included radio talk show host and sex therapist Laurie Betito ’83 and prolific crime novelist Sheila Kindellan-Sheehan ’64.

May: Annual Giving Reminder Mailing

If you received our original letter, but have not yet given to the current Annual Giving Campaign, look out for a friendly reminder in the mail or in your email inbox. Donations can be made online at marianopolis.edu/donate or by telephone by contacting Anne Cotignola ’06, Development Associate – Donor Relations, at 514-931-8792 ext.209. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
