ARTS TRIP TO NEW YORK , October 7th-10th. Join us for more information about the New York Arts Trip at 12:45 in A-401. This amazing package for art lovers and the art-curious includes three days and two nights in New York, museum and tour admissions and two group meals. FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION

Financial Aid Office is located in Room A-267B

- Government of Quebec – Student Loans and Bursaries Program (Aide Financière aux etudes) www.afe.gouv.qc.ca

- If you received a Notice of Calculation, you must pick up your Guarantee Certificate*in room A-267B, in order to begin receiving your financial assistance.

*This does not apply to students who received loans and bursaries last year.

- Marianopolis Tuition Credit Program

The deadline for submission of the tuition credit application is Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Students applying for a Tuition Credit must first have applied for a government loan through the www.afe.gouv.qc.ca program.    

-Libby Cahill Book Lending Program

There is a Book Lending Program for students receiving financial assistance. As of Monday, August 23, on a first come first served basis, request forms will be available at the Business Office, room A-269.  

The deadline to drop a course is Friday, September 17. See an Academic Advisor in room F-305 or F-309 if you wish to drop a course and to discuss the implications of doing so.

Dare to volunteer overseas! Change your life (and those of others!)   Canadian Crossroads International (CCI) is an international development organization that is reducing poverty and increasing women’s rights around the world. Working with local partners in 28 projects, in eight countries and supported by hundreds of volunteers each year, Crossroads leverages expertise and resources, North and South, required to help people overcome poverty and assert their human rights. We are presently looking for people interested in living a unique experience overseas. The program Québec sans frontières offers you the opportunity to be part of a group and work overseas in Mali or Senegal for two months next summer (2011). You will live in a host family and work closely to support a local NGO working in the fields of social economy or women’s rights and health.

Stratford Festival Weekend October 8-10, 2010

This is an Inter-CEGEP trip with John Abbott and Dawson. There is limited space and is on a first come/first sign up basis.  The cost is $270 and includes: transportation by deluxe coach, 3 plays, accommodation for 2 nights and continental breakfast

There is a non-refundable deposit of $135.00 due Sept. 7, payable in cash or cheque (made out to John Abbott College).

The balance will be due near the end of September.  If you are interested see Trudy in A-158.

Silver Key is RECRUITING! Silver Key is a group of students that act as official ambassadors of Marianopolis College. If you have experience or interest in getting involved at school, Silver Key is for you. Applications are now available at Wayne’s.

Whoever you are, whatever program you are in we shall find a spot for you as we need people good with skills in producing a website, good in arts, especially movie making, great at writing creatively, superb handymen or handywomen and anyone who wants to learn these skills. Marianopolis Responds to Pakistan

From August 30 th –September10th the Marianopolis College community will be asked to open their hearts and their wallets to aid in the disaster relief for Pakistan. Fund raising will take place with donation containers located throughout the college. As well students will be soliciting funds from offices on all floors. During the activity periods on August 31 st, Sept, 2 nd, 7 th and 9 th, a table collecting funds will be set up across from Wayne’s counter. We hope to culminate our project by Sept.10 th in time to be matched by government funds. This project is sponsored by Third World Studies and Student Services. Thank you for your generosity and support and check out the amazing thermometer across from Wayne’s counter!

Academic Services Section:

An HONOURS SCIENCE information session for first year students interested in joining the Honours Science Certificate will take place in the Amphitheatre (room D-120) on Thursday September 2. Students in Health Sciences, Pure and Applied Sciences as well as in Science and Music are eligible to apply to enter Honours Science. Students in the Arts and Sciences program may also apply but need to consult Professor D. Lemelin before proceeding with an application as there are some issues to be discussed. Interested in learning ancient Greek this semester during the Thursday activity period? Send a MIO to Rachel Levine or leave a note at room B-424.

Would you like to work as an USHER this semester for music concerts, guest speaker events, and special events? This occasional position involves handing out programs, controlling crowds, assisting with set-up and take-down, and other tasks. Improve your skills in English

There is a lot of help available for students who are not masters of the English language! This year, we offer these FREE services:

-Small group workshops (one hour per week for five weeks) in grammar, writing, and conversation and reading. (Registration required; see schedule in the Learning Resources Centre F-317 or A-322)

- Regular appointments with a professional English specialist

- Daily office hours (no appointments needed) with a professional English specialist (see schedule in the Learning Resources Centre F-317 or A-322)

- Peer tutoring in English (second year students helping first year students) (Online application and approval required).

MARKERS NEEDED

If you want to correct assignments in Math, Physics or Chemistry and you are a 2 nd year student, please send your request through Omnivox to C.Sokolnicki stating your grades in the courses you might correct and your phone number. If you are in Commerce also give that information.

 

Ca Marche Walk Against HIV/AIDS 2010 : Interested in organizing this year’s Marianopolis walker team? Please contact Pat Baker in room A-110 for more info. The money raised by our efforts directly helps Quebecers living with HIV/AIDS. Get involved and make a difference!

SMOKING POLICY – Smoking is NOT PERMITTED within 9 meters of the building or in any one of the back courtyards. Anyone caught smoking in a non-smoking area will be fined.
