About Student Services

Student Services is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and educators. We share the task of developing and maintaining a community in which students learn and grow within the classroom and outside of it.

Marianopolis is a community that sees 1,800 students come in and out of its doors everyday. Let’s harness this tremendous potential.

Drop by and see us on the first floor of the A-wing for information on:  Counselling, Health Services, Intercollegiate and Intramural Sports, Student Clubs, Part-Time Jobs, Student Government and a whole lot more.

The Information Counter/Stationery Store is the place to go if you need something and you aren’t sure where to find it...we may have it or, if we don’t, Wayne and Josie can point you in the right direction.

Health Services

Nurse: Anna Forlini
Room A-166 ext. 517

The physical and mental health of students is of great concern to the gang at Student Services. A Health Room (A-164) staffed by a volunteer First Aid Team ensures a quick and efficient response to illness and injury. A nurse is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 until 3:30 and Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 for confidential consultation on health concerns such as injuries, illness, contraception or stress management.

Safety and Security

Marianopolis College makes safety on campus a priority. A Safety Committee meets regularly to review concerns and a Security Officer patrols the College grounds and enforces parking regulations. Students who are encountering difficulties or who have concerns about their personal safety or that of other members of the College community are encouraged to contact the Director of Student Services.

Athletics

Sports Animator: Véronique Champoux
Room A-123B ext. 291

Intercollegiate and Intramural Sports

Marianopolis competes against other CEGEP’s in women’s and men’s rugby, soccer basketball, volleyball and golf. See the Sports Animator for information about tryouts and practice times. We also offer many popular intramural sports with an emphasis on friendly competition. Two or three different sports are offered each semester as students compete for intramural points. T-shirts are awarded to all those who play on winning intramural teams. Basketball, volleyball, soccer, touch football, badminton and broomball have been offered in the past. Registration for intramurals takes place each semester. Read the What's up and look for the posters!

We encourage you to participate in or start up a sports club. Latin dance, badminton, and floor hockey have been successful.  Students wishing to organize any sports activity should speak with the Sports Animator.

Student Life Animation

Student Life animator: Trudy Ste.Croix,
Room A-158 ext. 293
t.ste-croix@marianopolis.edu

Extra-curricular participation is a vital part of Marianopolis. For this reason, the College employs Student Life Animators and offers two free periods per week for special activities. Animators inform students about available resources and encourage the development of new activities. Their goals are to improve the quality of life for students outside the classroom and to develop leadership skills.

Each year, around 70 student clubs allow students to express their creativity and convictions in fields as diverse as the environment, arts and crafts, math, religion, culture and politics. See the Student Page: http://students.marianopolis.edu.

All students, faculty and staff interested in organizing a special event should get in touch with the Student Life Animators. This will ensure the support needed to make it a success, and will avoid conflict with other activities.

The Student life Animators are:

  • Resources to all students for the organization of clubs and activities
  • Responsible for student government (Congress)
  • Available to organize special events: Winter Carnival, International Day, BBQ's Comedy, Charity drives, Spring Fest, Dances, Talent Show and much more.
  • Organizers for Open House, graduation, etc.

So drop in any time!

Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry and Student Life animator: Sharon Rankin,
Room A-160 ext 243
s.rankin@marianopolis.edu

This student-oriented service provides resources, a meeting space and an opportunity to explore religious and spiritual concerns. With the support of an inter-faith team, the Campus Minister assists students of all religions (and those searching) and offers a chance to participate in a variety of activities on issues such as social justice, global awareness, peace and development. Voluntarism and an interest in social action are promoted through projects such as fund-raising, food and clothing drives, blood drives and work with community organizations.

Hillel, Catholics in Action, and the Marianopolis Christian Fellowship have animators who meet on campus weekly. As well, the Muslim Students Association and Chinese Christian Club provide activities and support. Referrals to resources of other faiths are available from this office.
Campus Ministry encourages students to take a serious look at their lifestyles and commitment to the world around them. It provides a place to come together and share friendships, to unload without being judged, to discuss current issues in a religious context and to act upon social concerns.
