Counselling
Want or need to talk? Our Counsellors are available to offer guidance and support on personal and vocational issues. Come and see them.
All counselling is strictly confidential and can be arranged by making an appointment on-line at www.marianopolis.edu/appointment or by calling local 244. Vocational testing is available to help students develop a clearer picture of themselves and their future plans.
Counselling Services also provide group workshops to enable students to develop self-awareness, enrich interpersonal relationships and share concerns. Examples include:
- Time management
- Exam preparation
- Study skills
- Interview skills
- Suicide awareness
- Stress management
- Eating disorders
- Sexuality education
- Gender-related issues
- Mental Health Day
- Independent Living
Special student support groups are created under the guidance of Marianopolis counsellors. In the past few years, groups have been established to educate members of the Marianopolis community and help students with issues such as eating disorders and sexuality. Students interested in starting a new group are invited to discuss it with the Counsellors.
Counselling and Academic Advising are quite distinct although they may work closely together. Counsellors concentrate on psychological well-being (personal development, problem-solving, self-understanding, etc.) and university and career planning. Academic Advisors are involved in the discussion and implementation of in-house academic programme planning, registration, course change as well as university liaison, requirements and application procedures.
