Mentoring in Mathematics and the Sciences

Academically strong students in the Science program interested in following an enriched curriculum may take advanced courses in science and mathematics through independent study.

The goal of mentoring is to allow students to deepen their understanding of more advanced concepts in mathematics and the sciences and explore some of the type of activities they may be exposed to in university honours programs or if they were to pursue a career in mathematics or sciences.  It enhances the students’ capacity for serious abstract reasoning and nurtures independent learning.

Students who have participated the mentoring project have found the experience to be enriching and exciting (even though it was hard at first).  Those who enrolled in an honours university program have reported that their experience with this particular project gave them the first taste of the kind of learning and discipline required to succeed in such a demanding environment.
