Is your first language something other than English? Marianopolis College offers its Preparation for English College Studies (PECS) course in early summer each year. This course is designed for students whose first language is not English. It aims to improve English communication skills through grammar review, vocabulary and idiom drills, oral presentations, reading comprehension drills and free and controlled writing exercises.
The course also familiarizes students with Marianopolis and its various services in order to facilitate the transition to an Anglophone institution.
PECS does not give credit toward a Diploma of Collegial Studies nor does it replace ENG 002. It is an additional offering to help students succeed.
The PECS course typically begins in late June and finishes in the second week of July. Classes are held mornings, Monday through Friday. (In 2009, PECS classes were held 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25 to July 10.) Enrolment is limited to 25 students per section.
