English Monitoring & Writing Professional

The goal of this service is to continue to reinforce the language skills development of ESL students as well as to assists all students in attaining a level of competency in English that will enable them to succeed in all of their college courses and on the English Exit Exam. Students registered in the service receive, on an appointment basis, one hour a week of individualized professional sessions through the course of the semester. Other students wishing to receive occasional professional tutoring sessions can benefit from the same individual assistance by availing themselves of the drop-in hours offered by both the Monitors and the Writing Professional.

Sessions are designed to develop specific skills based on individual student needs and include editing practices and error analysis. Sessions may also include revision and editing (for form only, not content) of students’ written work in their courses, with the written permission of the instructor. Assignments for students’ English course are reviewed with the English Monitor or Writing Professional only after they have been graded by the instructor. Grammar exercises may be used to supplement writing, revising and editing practices.
