Workshops for English Exit Exam

Group workshops are available to students who need additional support to write the Quebec Ministry of Education English Exit Exam. The goal is to help them overcome particular difficulties with essay responses in specific categories, including comprehension, organization and expression.

Some students who finish their first year at Marianopolis College pass their English courses with low marks, and some only after repeating ENG-101 or ENG-102. In order to pass the ENG-103 course, as well as the English Exit Exam in December, students are expected to function at a very high literacy level.  Those students who need considerable help with their English skills in the third semester are encouraged to use these workshops as an additional resource.

The workshops help students pass the English Exit Exam, and also improve chances of success in all courses at the College where written English is necessary.  The students targeted for this project are those registered in the Fall session of ENG-103 courses who have been flagged by their teachers as being at risk of failing the English Exit Exam or ENG-103 in December. All ENG-103 teachers give students a “simulated exit exam” as an assignment before Week 7. Students are then targeted for this project based on their performance on this assignment.  As well, depending on the number of students flagged, students registered in the repeater ENG-102 or ENG-LBE courses may also be targeted.
