Science Program (200.B0)
Within the Science Program, students can
choose a specific profile:
- Health Science profile (200.B1)
- Pure and Applied Science
profile (200.B2).
Furthermore, the College offers for both
profiles the following options:
- an Honours Science Certificate
- the possibility to enroll in
Enriched courses
- certificates in International
Studies, Law and Social Justice and Third World Studies.
What Is It?
The Marianopolis Science Program is
designed to provide the best possible preparation for university study in
scientific fields, centered around a concentration of courses in mathematics,
physics, chemistry and biology.
A student's choice of profile is determined
by preferences and the pre-requisites of the desired university program of
studies. It is possible to change profiles while in college. Elective courses
within each profile are selected on the basis of student interest, keeping in
mind additional university requirements.
Who Should Take It?
The Marianopolis Science Program is
specifically designed for students who intend to pursue university work in any
of the scientific fields.
Where Does It Lead?
The Science Program is designed to prepare
students for university studies in the fields of Pure Sciences, Engineering,
Architecture and other Applied Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry and other
specializations in the Health Sciences. The Science Program is also an
excellent preparation for students wishing to pursue careers in Law,
Mathematics, Computer Science and numerous other fields.

What
Else?
Advance Placement: Students who have
been admitted to the college and who have covered course material equivalent to
the content of a Mathematics or a Science course in the Science program may
apply for advanced placement.
Advanced placement exams are normally
written either in June, before beginning the program, or during regular exam
sessions at the College in December and May. A small examination fee is
charged.
Application for advanced placement exams
can be submitted during the May registration or at a later stage by contacting
the department chairs. Course outlines and textbook references (as well as a
sample exam, when available) may also be obtained.
Enriched Courses: Marianopolis Science
Program students benefit from the opportunity of enrichment in the following
disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Students choose
individually, according to their personal interests, which courses they wish to
follow in the enriched format.
While course work in the enriched sections
is more challenging, final exams are consistent in level with exams in the
regular sections. It should be noted that enriched classes are grouped with the
regular classes for the purpose of the R-score calculation.
An attestation certifying that students
have taken enriched courses is provided by the Registrar's office so that
students may include it with their application for university.
