Arts and Sciences
If the idea of studying the Middle Ages from a medical and historical perspective, or looking at the religious and social implications of Galileo's breakthrough in science and mathematics fascinates you, you should consider Marianopolis' Arts and Sciences program. The Arts and Sciences, also known as Sciences, lettres et arts or le DEC intégré, was offered for the first time in English in 2004 at Marianopolis. This two-year program features key elements of three programs: Science, Social Science, and Creative Arts, Literature & Languages. The combination of courses in this program provides students with integrative links through the use of common themes covered simultaneously by several courses. This culminates with an integrative seminar in the last semester for the fields of Art, Science and Social Science.
Who Should Take It?
Arts and Sciences is a challenging, multi-faceted program designed for strong and versatile students who want to experience a broad number of subjects before deciding on future university studies. You should apply to Arts and Sciences if you:
- have a strong record of achievement in all your academic subjects and demonstrate superior writing skills;
- want to continue studying a broad range of subjects;
- may still be deciding on the direction you wish to take at university;
- want to study major issues in the 21st century;
- have the urge to learn to think broadly and to approach situations from different angles, are not afraid to learn within and beyond a challenging curriculum;
- are keen on being part of a small community of learners within a wider college context.

Where Does It Lead?
The Arts and Sciences program offers access to all university programs with the exception of Dance, Fine Arts, and Music. The successful completion of the 10 Math/Science courses in the program qualifies students to be considered for and accepted into Science-based university faculties and programs. Graduating students can apply for undergraduate degrees in Science, the Social Sciences, or the Arts, as well as professional programs such as Architecture, Dentistry, Engineering, Law and Medicine.
About Applying
Specific Application requirements for the Arts and Sciences program
In addition to the general requirements described on the Admissions pages, students applying for admission to the Arts and Sciences program must include a letter of intent with their application. This 1 or 2 page letter is your opportunity to tell us about your interests in the Arts, Social Sciences and Sciences, and more specifically, your interest in this program. It should also describe any activities or interest — drama, music, art, for example — that would provide the Admissions Selection Committee with information on why you would be an ideal candidate for the Arts and Sciences program.

Alternatives
Due to limited spaces in the Arts & Sciences program, we offer applicants who qualify for Arts & Sciences the opportunity to be considered for admission to another program offered at the College (Science, Commerce, Social Science, Liberal Arts or Creative Arts). The alternate choice option will only be used if you qualify for the Arts & Sciences program and we could not offer you a space. Should you want to choose this option, you must clearly indicate your alternate choice of program at Marianopolis in your letter of intent.
