Bell Montreal Regional Science & Technology Fair
Marianopolis College is immensely proud to have hosted during its Centennial year the 27th edition of the Bell Montreal Regional Science & Technology Fair (BMRSTF) March 22 to 24, 2009.
"It's appropriate that the College hosted the 2009 BMRSTF because the fair was first held in 1981 as the Marianopolis Science Fair," said then-Director General Françoise Boisvert, CND. "From its humble beginnings of showcasing a handful of projects, the fair has grown into a prestigious regional event, under the umbrella group of the Educational Alliance for Science and Technology."
Hundreds of students from Greater Montreal area high schools and CEGEPs, both public and private, presented their projects to and interacted with university professors, scientists from the top research institutions, teachers and the public. Budding scientists competed for prizes, scholarships and awards.
Marianopolis was honoured to have had as keynote speaker Lorne M. Trottier, who, like the hundreds of fair participants, became fascinated with science and innovation at a young age. He studied Electrical Engineering at McGill University, where, thanks to his generosity, the Lorne M. Trottier Building now houses the Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science departments. His love of science also compelled him to create the annual Lorne Trottier Public Science Symposium, a public forum on science-related issues confronting society. His alma mater bestowed upon him an honorary Doctorate of Science. The Quebec government honoured him with the Prix Lionel-Boulet and, in 2006, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.
