“Fill your house with books and music.”

- Marvin Gameroff, father of David ‘79

This was the advice given to cabinet member David Gameroff '79 from his father as he was preparing to move his young family into their new home. It was also the sentiment that inspired the launch of the Moving hearts and minds capital campaign.

Hosted in the Art Deco auditorium of the College’s new home on Westmount Avenue, the launch presented to an assembly of students, faculty, alumni, parents and friends the needs of the College as it prepared for the transition to the new campus.

The many speakers who shared with the audience their memories of Marianopolis and their motivations for lending a hand during this momentous occasion included: Nicholas Kasirer ’78, Dean of Law at McGill University;  Mary Liistro Hébert, Chair of the Board of Governors; Françoise Boisvert '58, CND, Director General of Marianopolis College;, Jill de Villafranca, Chair of the Marianopolis Millennium Foundation, John Archer ‘81, RBC Dominion Securities, Josée Gravel ’76, GE Capital Solutions, Patti McDonald ’80, Academic Advisor at Marianopolis and Andrew Wilmer, Marianopolis Teacher, co-chairs of the Faculty & Staff Campaign, Lorraine Caza, CND, Congregation Leader, Françoise Beaubien Vien ’58, President of Pathonic Foundation; and David Gameroff ’79.  Co-emcees for the launch were Angie Ip ’05 and Maggie Mulrooney ’06.  Music student Wen Sei Yan provided a wonderful performance to begin the event.

The highlight of the morning was the announcement of the largest donation ever received by the College from an individual to-date – from alumna and former parent Françoise Beaubien Vien '58, to support the Learning Centre in the new building.  As well, the Congregation of Notre Dame announced their support to the Marianopolis campaign – a $2MN contribution to assist with the building project.  Campaign co-chairs Josée Gravel '76 and John Archer '81 introduced the campaign priorities and announced that over $3,500,000 has already been contributed to the campaign, including contributions from the faculty and staff totaling over $142,000 from over 80% of the campus community.
