Campaign Co-Chairs Profile

John Archer, who graduated from Marianopolis in 1981, is an investment advisor, financial security advisor, newspaper columnist, and lecturer. He is known to many Montrealers for his regular contributions to The Gazette on the subject of retirement, tax and estate planning.

John has been with RBC Dominion Securities since 1996 and in the insurance and investment industry since 1984. He is also active within the community: not only is he co-chair of our Capital Campaign, but  also serves on the Executive Committee of the McGill University Health Centre Foundation. John went to Roslyn Elementary School and grew up four blocks from the new Marianopolis campus. He continues to live in the immediate area and is very interested in projects that will positively impact his neighborhood. John is also a graduate of McGill University.

John believes strongly in the quality of education Marianopolis not only provided to him, but also to tens of thousands of Montrealers over the last 100 years. He thinks the move is a positive one for the school as its new location will help raise the physical profile of Marianopolis and create even greater demand for the school. John is proud to be a member of this campaign and has been encouraged by the reception he and his committee has received from prominent Montrealers as they canvas for support.

Josée Gravel is Senior Vice-President of Legal Affairs at GE Capital Solutions, and is a 1976 graduate of Marianopolis College. She went on to McGill University to earn an Honours degree in Economics and a joint Law-M.B.A. degree. She was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1984.

Prior to joining GE Capital Solutions, Josée was a partner at Stikeman Elliott, practicing in the areas of real estate, aircraft financing, commercial and banking law. For three years she was a member of the firm's student recruitment committee.

In an interesting coincidence, Josée was part of the Marianopolis graduating class that spent its first year at the Peel Street campus and finished its studies on the college's Côte-des-Neiges campus. Having lived through the College's last move as a student, she returns as a senior volunteer to play a leadership role in facilitating the transition to the Westmount location.

Honorary Patrons Profile

The Marianopolis Millennium Foundation would like to introduce our four honorary patrons to the Moving hearts and minds Capital Campaign. The experience, leadership, and enthusiasm of these remarkable individuals are sure to be invaluable assets as we work towards achieving our goal!

Françoise Beaubien Vien ’58, parent of Patrick Vien ’85, is very loyal to her alma mater and quickly responded “yes” when she was invited to become the first honorary patron of the campaign. She is married to Paul Vien and is President of the Pathonic Foundation, whose name is an acronym for her three children (Patrick, Thomas, and Nicole). She is supportive of many local community organizations, especially in the area of mental health, and is on the board of Philanthropic Foundations Canada, an organization that provides assistance to the many charitable foundations across the country.  Françoise is a recipient of the Antoinette Robidoux Award, given annually by Centraide Montreal, in recognition of her support to Friends for Mental Health, West Island.

Rachel Renaud is a well-known Montreal philanthropist and entrepreneur, dedicated to educating governments, corporations, foundations and private individuals on the importance of giving back to the community. Her primary role is Executive Director of the Roasters Foundation, funding numerous children's related not-for-profit organizations and implementing programs for youth in relation to health and education. Rachel is also Chair of the Montreal Association for the Blind Foundation and board member of the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, the Toujours Ensemble Foundation, and Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation.

Jonathan Wener, parent of Jacqueline ’94, is Chairman and CEO of Canderel. He is founder of the Urban Development Institute of Québec and is passionately committed to supporting cancer research through the annual Défi Corporatif Canderel. Jonathan has given personal support to many not-for-profit organizations, serving actively on the boards of Concordia University, The Jewish General Hospital, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the YMCA Foundation. Jonathan was named a Member of the Order of Canada in 2004.

Pierrette Wong, parent of Jennifer ’94, is a successful businesswoman with a long career in real estate, hospitality, and fashion. She is actively involved at the Montreal Chinese Community Centre, and the primary supporter of the McGill University Faculty of Dentistry’s Jamson T.N. Wong Laboratories for Bone & Periodontal Research – named in honour of her late husband. She is currently co-chair of the MUHC Foundation’s Best Care for Life Campaign in support of women’s health care. Pierrette was raised in Mauritius, educated in Paris and London, and has lived in Montreal for over 30 years.
