First Term Pass Rates

Studies have shown that success in the first term is very important for students’ motivation, perseverance and eventual graduation rates. The two charts below compare the first term pass rates of Marianopolis Science students with those at other colleges overall as well as for students in all ranges of incoming high school marks.

First term pass rates are provided by the the Ministry of Education in the CHESCO (Cheminement scolaire) report. According to the latest update published in Nov 2007, 90% of Marianopolis students in the Science Progaram pass all their courses in first term compared to 81% at other private colleges and 73% at public CEGEP's. These are 4-year averages; Chart 1 below shows year-by-year figures.

CHART 1

This success rate is not entirely due to the higher secondary averages of incoming students, as confirmed by reports publilshed by SRAM (Service régional d’admission du Montréal), in October 2008. The data is displayed in Chart 2, which considers the percent of all first-term courses successfully completed by science students. It shows that science students with secondary averages in all ranges perform better at Marianopolis than their peers at over 50 colleges in the data bank of SRAM.
