Success Rates

There are many ways of achieving success. The personal satisfaction of the learning experience and growth, and the life-long friendships established during the college years are difficult to quantify; preparation for university studies is also difficult to measure under present conditions. Other achievements like pass rates, graduation rates and admission rates to first choice universities can be measured.

Admission Rates to First Choice Universities and Programs

Each September the college conducts a follow-up survey by telephone and mail of all the winter and summer graduates of the current year to establish university attendance levels. The survey indicates that in recent years over 98% of Marianopolis Social Science & Commerce graduates continued their studies at university immediately after graduation.

Consistent with the high quality of their collegial records, their rate of admission to first choice universities and programs is impressive, as seen from Chart 1 below. This chart shows that, on average, 90% of the Marianopolis Social Science & Commerce graduates are admitted to their first choice universities, 89% to their first choice programs of studies, and 80% to their first choice programs at their first choice universities.

First-Term Pass Rates at Marianopolis

Studies have shown that success in the first term is very important for students’ motivation, perseverance and eventual graduation rates. The two charts below compare the first- term pass rates of Marianopolis Social Science & Commerce students with those at other colleges globally as well as for students in all ranges of incoming high school marks.

First-term pass rates are provided by the Ministry of Education in the CHESCO (Cheminement scolaire) report. According to the latest update published in November 2007, 74% of Marianopolis students in the Social Science & Commerce Program pass all their courses in first term compared to 68% at other private colleges and 57% at public CEGEPs. These are 4-year averages; Chart 2 below shows year-by-year figures.

CHART 2

This success rate is not entirely due to the higher secondary averages of incoming students, as confirmed by reports published by SRAM (Service régional d’admission du Montréal), in October 2008. The data is displayed in Chart 3, which considers the percent of all first-term courses successfully completed by Social Science & Commerce students. It shows that students with secondary averages in all ranges perform better at Marianopolis than their peers at over 50 colleges in the data bank of SRAM.

Graduation Rates

The high levels of first term success rates and third term re-registration rates in the Social Science & Commerce Program at Marianopolis lead to significantly higher graduation rates in the program.

According to the latest update published in November 2007, 68% of Marianopolis students in the Social Science & Commerce Program graduate within two years compared to 45% at other private colleges and 32% at public CEGEP's.
