(Social Science and Commerce Profiles)

What is it?

The Social Science program deals with the origin and functioning of human society, its institutions, and the interpersonal relationships of individuals within society. The content emphasizes critical thinking within a research oriented approach, providing students with the necessary skills for future studies in many fields. The Program is diverse, with a wide variety of interesting courses and disciplines, some traditional, but most new to first year students. The common link among the various Social Science disciplines is that they all study society, its individuals and groups, using different concepts, approaches and points of view.

At Marianopolis, the program is divided into Social Science profiles and Commerce.

Who should take it?

The Social Sciences Program is an ideal choice for a great number of students. If you have made a career decision in the social sciences, the program provides a solid educational background for future university studies. If you are uncertain of your future direction, the Social Sciences Program will expose you to a number of different disciplines and provide you with a solid educational background for future studies. The particularly strong students should apply into the Social Science Honours Certificate.

Any student who wants an excellent preparation for university studies on any business-oriented program is encouraged to consider the Marianopolis Commerce profile. Most universities encourage CEGEP Commerce students to take a wide variety of courses beyond business courses; the Marianopolis Commerce profile promotes this broadening of students’ education by introducing students to several social science disciplines as well as business courses. Outstanding students should apply into the Honours Commerce Certificate, achieving both the breadth in education that the universities suggest and the exposure to business that Commerce students enjoy.

Social Science and Commerce students are also eligible for certificates in Law and Social Justice, International Studies, and Third World Studies.
