R-Score
(CRC, or la cote de rendement au collégial )
What is it?
- The R-score is a measure used by Quebec universities in order to rank applicants.
- The R-score (computed by the Ministry of Education) is based in part on students’ college marks in comparison with the marks of other students in their group.
- It is not a simple difference between the student’s mark and the group average, but rather a calculation involving several factors, as explained in the R-score Calculation page.
Does each course get an R-score? Is there an overall R-score?
- The R-score is calculated for each college course with an enrolment of 6 or more, with the exception of make-up or mise à niveau courses. R-scores of Physical Education courses are included as of Fall 2007.
- Most R-scores (for marks above 60) fall between 18 and 40.
- A weighted cumulative R-score average is calculated for each student, taking into account the credit value of each college course.
- Quebec universities have agreed to bonus the cumulative R-score for students graduating in the Arts and Sciences program (700.A0).
- Since October 2004, failed courses receive a reduced weighting in the cumulative R-score calculation. First-term failures are weighted 25%, and subsequent failures 50%.
