What Is It?
The Liberal Arts Program is a structured historical survey of the writings and ideas that have shaped the modern world. It begins with a study of ancient Greek, Hebrew and Oriental texts. It progresses historically over its two year course through Medieval and Renaissance thought to the most influential ideas of the twentieth century.
Who Should Take It?
Students are drawn to the Liberal Arts Program for one or more of the following reasons:
- An interest and curiosity in ideas and their origins.
- A preference for integrated learning in which instructors deliberately build on and reinforce material from other courses.
- A desire to participate in a cohesive community of learners with common goals and experiences, situated within a larger academic community.
Applicants are selected on the basis of strong academic motivation and a commitment to the goals of the program. Students should be aware that a cooperative attitude and team spirit are important for maximum benefit and enjoyment of the program.
Students who are looking for a course of studies that is rigorous, enjoyable, and intellectually stimulating should seriously consider the Liberal Arts Program.
Where Does It Lead?
The program provides a solid academic base for university studies in the arts and social sciences and it enables students to prepare for careers in such fields as Law, Government, Education, Communications, and the Social Sciences or Business.
In addition, the Liberal Arts Program is based on the assumptions that a liberal education is a preparation for life and that learning is itself one of life’s important pleasures.
