Psychology
Curiosity about why human beings behave the way they do has led to the scientific study known as psychology. While all people share this interest, psychologists try to understand human behaviour through systematic study. The facts are explained scientifically and interpreted according to schools of psychological thought such as behaviourism, psychoanalysis and humanism. The aim of psychology is to interpret, predict and understand behaviour and, ultimately, to apply this information to the problems encountered by people.
Social Science and Commerce students at Marianopolis must take Introduction to Psychology, and may then continue in upper level psychology courses. Psychology is associated with the various Social Science themes, and students in other programs can take psychology courses as part of their complementary block.

In addition to the above, Psychology of Learning may be among the psychology course offerings on occasion. Courses in psychology help prepare students for university studies in psychology, law, commerce, medicine, and all other social science (arts) programs. Students who graduate with university degrees in psychology work as psychologists, teachers, researchers, clinicians, therapists, guidance and career counsellors, educational and business consultants, sports psychologists, and many other occupations. Studies in psychology make students aware of how to understand the thoughts, feelings and behaviour of themselves and others, how they influence other people and how other people influence them. The knowledge and skills that are developed by studying psychology can contribute to success in both personal and professional relationships.
