Mathematics

Mathematics is an essential discipline that encompasses many diverse and fascinating applications.   By emphasizing problem solving in all mathematics courses taught at Marianopolis, students can develop skills in critical thinking and increase their use of logic and mathematics in everyday life.

All students registered in the Commerce profile must complete Calculus I, Calculus II and Linear Algebra courses.   Those in the Social Science profile who wish to study mathematics have the option of taking either one math course (Calculus I) or two math courses (Calculus I and Linear Algebra).

In the Social Science Program, there are two additional courses offered by the Mathematics Department.   Introduction to College Math is a non-credit course designed to strengthen and reinforce the mathematical skills required to successfully complete college math courses.   Social Statistics is a compulsory course intended for Social Science students in the Psychology profile.

Mathematics courses are an excellent preparation for university studies.   Also, individuals with training in mathematics enhance their versatility in pursuing exciting professional careers in fields such as accounting, actuarial mathematics, administration, banking, basic research, business, computer science, economics, education, finance, government service, information systems, management consulting, marketing, psychology, skilled trades and telecommunications, just to name a few.
