Economics

Economics is the social science that deals with the production and distribution of goods and services in a society. Economists investigate the problem of how to allocate the scarce resources among the unlimited human wants. Economics is a science of decision-making; a study of choice.

All students in Social Science and Commerce at Marianopolis take the required   Macroeconomics course, and many continue to take additional upper level economics courses from the choices seen below. Economics courses are associated with the various Social Science themes, and students in other programs may also be able to take one as part of their complementary block.

In addition to the courses listed above, the department may also offer a course in Money and Banking.

Courses in economics help prepare students for university studies in economics, commerce, social sciences, and law. Through their studies, economics students learn to develop critical thinking skills about major economic issues in the news, and develop an understanding of how economic concerns are related to their everyday personal and professional lives.

*Microeconomics is a requirement for the Concordia University Commerce program; some other university Commerce and Management programs recommend it.
